Flouncy Light Blue Shirt Dress

Holy crap, I’m not wearing black!

I picked up this dress when I was in Paris in April. (Sing it with me now…  “April in Paris…”) I’ve always been intrigued by the store, COS. I’ve been in a few on my travels, but never really had an opportunity to do much of anything other than a quick browse. There was a COS store just around the corner from our hotel in the St. Germaine neighborhood. One afternoon after surviving some serious sight seeing activities everyone was chilling at the hotel and glued to their phones, so I decided to go down to the store.

I tried on a BUNCH of things, and ended up deciding on this dress. A lot of their styles are really oversized and that look doesn’t do much for my figure. I think you have to be long and lean to wear the oversized look well. I am neither long, nor lean. There were some non-oversized styles and those are what I gravitated to. I do like that many of their dresses are longer and therefore, work appropriate. Or life appropriate, if you are like me and not wanting to show as much leg as I used to. Basically, short skirts and dresses are just too much work. You have to sit “just so”, you have to be careful when bending, you can’t reach over your head. Ain’t nobody got time for that. I want to be able to move freely without constantly worrying that my butt is going to hang out.

I’m not sure about the ethics or sustainability of the COS brand. I did a bit of a search and came up with a grade C. So, they clearly could do better. I know they are owned by H&M. In my defense, I did buy this before I made my declaration to myself and all of you to be a better, smarter consumer.

Review: Grana Short Sleeve Silk Shirt

When I picked up the black silk tank from Grana that I featured last week, I also ordered a short sleeve button up silk shirt. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it. I’m weary of cropped garments on my frame because they can hit right at the thickest part of my body. This shirt works though. Maybe it’s because it’s made of silk so it drapes off the body wonderfully. I love that about silk.

I really like the straight hem. I’m sure you could tuck it in, but it looks great wearing it out. I’ve worn it with khaki chinos to work, a white denim skirt, and with cropped white jeans (below). I had been eyeing a similar silk shirt at Everlane, but it was MUCH more expensive and was very oversized. Those tend to make me look like I’m pregnant. I’m glad I gave this a try. It’s a winner and at $49.00 USD quite a deal.

So, would I recommend this shirt? Absolutely! I can’t stop wearing it.

Black is Back

After doing the seasonal closet rotation I realized that I had a lot of summer clothes (especially dresses) that didn’t bring me joy. They either fit poorly, didn’t flatter my body style, were too short, or were no longer in the color scheme that I am drawn to. I culled the herd. “Donation pile for you!”

You guys…  The only colors I want to wear right now are black, white, olive green, and blue in denim form. But black is the overwhelming winner. So, I guess I’m a New Waver again. I’m a bit more classic in my all black looks at 45 than I was at 16. I hope.

You can’t tell very well in the photos, but the sweater I’m wearing has a mesh panel at the top in the front and the bottom half of the back. So, some sort of layering is required. Or you could be more risque than I am. You decide. I’m wearing a tank top because I am not a flasher. I thought the mesh panels added a bit of something something that makes the sweater interesting. The sweater is from Athleta. They have made a commitment to sustainability and supporting women, so I’m happy to support this company. You can read more about their commitment here.

A note on sizing regarding this sweater. It runs really, really big. I am generally a medium and I ended up buying this in an extra small. As you can see, it is still plenty flowy. Size down!
