Review: Grana Silk Tank

Hi friends! Are you still out there? Thank you for always hanging in there with me when I disappear. My disappearing acts are never intentional. Life just gets in the way. I think you all know that I work full-time, am married, and have two kids (12 and 15). Life is just full. My son is my photographer and we take photos on the weekends. If my son has something going on, photos get put on hold. I’m not going to put blog photos in front of his activities, social or otherwise. That’s crappy.

I want you all to know that I have quit giving a fuck. Sorry for the potty mouth. But yeah…  I’m sick and tired of not wearing clothes because I don’t have a perfect body. I’ve avoided tank tops, and so many other items of clothes because I don’t like my arms, or I’m super white, or you can see my age spots, or I look flubbery and mushy. Well, that stops now. I’m not perfect. I’m perfectly imperfect and I’m done giving a fuck.

So there.

Since I’m done giving a fuck, I’ve embraced tank tops. GASP.

I introduced you all to Grana a while back. They sent me some clothes to review back in January and they earned a loyal customer. I was super pleased with the quality of their items, and they are an ethical company. One of the items that they sent me was a silk shirt. I really liked that shirt, and since I’ve become a grown up and started to wear silk I bought some more of their silk items. (FYI… This is not a sponsored post.)

So, what do I like about this tank? First and foremost, the price. It’s incredibly affordable at just $29 USD. Secondly, I love the style. It has a rounded hem, that is longer in the back. It’s a nice touch that makes it just a bit more interesting. Plus it covers your tushy. You can wear a plain ol’ regular bra with it and nothing shows. Do you see any bra poking out anywhere? Nope. You don’t. That right there is worth a zillion dollars to me. I have to wear a bra and I hate it when it shows out of every nook and cranny.

The tank is unlined, but the silk is nice and opaque so you can’t see anything through it. I don’t know how the lighter colors would hold up to the opaqueness test though. How does it compare to the Everlane silk? I’d say the Everlane silk is thicker and a bit nicer, but it’s a lot more expensive. I think the Grana silk is a nice affordable option, and they offer some more classic styling options.

So, would I recommend this tank? Yes.

Everlane Review: Double-Lined Silk V-Neck Dress

I hadn’t bought anything made of silk in eons. One thing that prevented me from buying silk garments was having to pay for dry cleaning. I’ve come to terms with the fact that there are some things that I’m going to have to dry clean in order to keep looking nice. I’m already having to dry clean all my cashmere and merino sweaters, so what’s one more silk dress?

After I brain wrangled myself around that topic I decided to give the Everlane Double-Lined Silk V-Neck Dress a try. OK, let me be honest with you. I ordered a whole bunch of black dresses from Everlane and this was one of them. As I was trying them all on it was a big ol’ nope fest until I put this one on.

Let me give you some specs because I’m wearing a denim jacket over it and you can’t see for yourself (sorry, it was really cold when we were taking pictures). The v-neck is not too deep, I’m quite endowed and do not like to show off the wonder twins to the whole world. The v is the perfect amount of “hey, let’s show a little skin but let’s also be modest”.  The arms holes are not too deep, so no bra show. The tank part of the dress has ample straps to cover your bra straps, so no special bra is needed. YES.

And can we talk about this drape? The dress is two layers so there are no visible panty lines. DOWN WITH VPL! Also, it hides any middle-section imperfections that you may have if you aren’t rocking six-pack abs without making it look like you are wearing a potato sack. The hem is extra big, so it helps to hold the dress down. I feel so swishy in this dress and pretty much never want to take it off. It feels amazing on.

This one is going to be in high rotation this summer. I plan to wear it to work with a cardigan or blazer. It looks cute. I already tested it. On those super hot days I’ll wear it all by it’s lonesome with some awesome sandals.

PS: Are you wondering which were the nope dresses?

The Sport Rib Tee Dress and the Sport Rib Tank Dress were major nopes. If you want to look like a Kardashian then by all means buy one of these dresses. The fabric was nice and thick and the quality was great, but they were SO tight. I bought them in a size large and I don’t even think a size extra large would help them look less Kardashian. I think you have to have zero curves to make those dresses work.

I also bought the Japanese GoWeave Cocoon Dress and sent that one back too. It’s a lovely dress, but it is not made for my body type at all. I bought it in a size 10 and the top was too large. The arm holes were so big that you could see about 4 inches of skin below my bra strap. However, it fit in the hips. The bottom sweep is narrow so you can’t walk like a regular person in it. There is no way that a size 8 would fit my hips comfortably. And there is that whole walking problem. So, NOPE!

Bringing Out the White Jeans BEFORE Memorial Day

I know, right?

If it got warmer before May, I’d break this rule harder, but this is Michigan and I don’t want to get lost in the snow. Do you know how this rule came about? Mean girls. High society girls/women in the 1880s came up with all sorts of fashion rules that the in crowd had to follow. That way they could tell who was part of the in crowd and who wasn’t. If you showed up somewhere and didn’t follow one of their rules they could easily spot you and wouldn’t even give you the time of day. DAMN. That shit is rough. So, mean girls did this. This is just another reason why you should distance yourself from negative people.

I’ve told you all that I’m a total Pollyanna before, but did you know that I am also a fierce rebel and a person who will stand up to jerks treating others badly? I will go to my grave listening to indie music, supporting equality for everyone, and refusing to dress to a corporate standard. DOWN WITH THE MAN! And do not get me started on our current political administration…  I’m pretty quiet and reserved when you first meet me, but after I trust you watch out… I will let it all out. There is nothing that I despise more than a bully or someone trying to take advantage of another person. No, no, no. Not on my watch.

Wow… See what mean girls do? Tirade time.

I just found out that J. Crew discontinued the Matchstick jeans, which is the style that I wear. Another reason why J. Crew is dead to me. Why do retailers think that women only want to wear skinny or cropped jeans? Jeans are so hard to find and once you find a style/cut you like it is disheartening to learn that they quit making them. Luckily, I’m not in dire need of jeans at this point and time, and I made a deal with myself that I would seek out ethical/conscious ones the next time I needed a pair. Everlane is supposed to have jeans this fall, so I’ll try those.

PS – I have a couple of updates for you.

Nisolo

An update on the Nisolo Mariella Mules. I get a lot of questions about these. I’m still loving them. I wear them constantly. They were comfortable from day one. They do stretch a wee bit, but nothing major. The only thing that I don’t like is that they scuff easily. I get marks on the inner side of the shoes from where the sole of the other shoe hits. I know that I am a klutzy walker, so this just may be my issue. I thought I’d bring it up though. I need to research how to remove these. Would I still recommend them? Absolutely.

Grana

I’m also extolling the virtues of the Grana Pima tees to anyone that will listen. I have been wearing them on high rotation since January and they wash and wear wonderfully. I have both the the Pima V-Neck and Pima Crew Neck (I am wearing the crew neck above). I will never buy another tee. I have been asked to do a post wearing just the tee, but I’m very uncomfortable showing my arms off. True story. I took some pictures and was horrified by what I saw. So, you are just going to have to trust me on this one. I take a large in the tees. Their sizing is smaller than North American sizing. In comparison, I’m a medium in tees at J. Crew or Gap.
