Visiting the Heidelberg Project – Detroit

I’ve lived in the Detroit metro area for over 14 years. Visiting The Heidelberg Project has been on my list of things to do for a long time. A really long time. I’m embarrassed how long it took me to visit. I’m a homebody…  So, my spare time is precious and sometimes I just want to sit around in stretchy pants.

Since we are stay-cationing this week we’ve had nothing but time. The hubs and I decided to take a trip down to the site. The Heidelberg Project is an ever-changing and morphing art project that encompasses Heidelberg Street in Detroit. Actually, it spills over Heidelberg Street.

While I was taking pictures, hubs was talking to one of the overseers of the Project. Detroit has a lot of vandalism and The Project has been burned down several times… He learned the significance of the clocks. Apparently, when the artist was child he was often locked in a closet for long periods of time and he lost all track of time. And then my heart broke into a zillion pieces.

My feels have been really close to the surface lately and that hit a deep chord.

After we visited The Project we stopped by Sister Pie for some delicious pie (duh). That was another Detroit place that has been on our list of places to visit. That crust. My GOD. Delicious. So, here’s to trying new things! Two thumbs up for stepping out comfort zones.

Thanks for stopping by!

White & Denim

Hi friends! I’m off work this week. Since we took our big family vacation to Paris in April, we decided to lay low and staycation this week. I’m a homebody, so I’m pleased as punch to just putter around. My husband can’t sit still, so we’ve already taken two day trips.

We decided to drive to Grand Rapids, Michigan, which is about 2 hours away from our house in the Detroit metro area, to visit the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park. Ummmm… Worth it. It was really cool. The gardens were beautiful and the sculptures were really amazing. If you live in the area, you should make the trip. We all really enjoyed it. The only downfall is that it was super hot. We were melting and there was hardly any shade. Blergh. Because of my moles/melanoma issue, I’m not supposed to get much (OK any) sun so I was wearing my denim jacket for sun protection. I was a sweaty Betty. I was so sweaty that when I got home I took a cold shower and threw every item of clothing I was wearing into the laundry basket. Yuck.

I picked up a pair of the Birkenstock Gizeh sandals in silver this summer. I have a very sensitive toe crack (totally not kidding), so I’ve generally been a fan of the Arizona style, but these wormed their way into my heart. It appears as if I’m becoming more and more of a hippie as the days tick on. I wear Birkenstock sandals, practice yoga, drive a Subaru Outback, and I’m even wearing a crystal necklace in the photos below. Please excuse me as I go align my chakras.

A Simple Summer Outfit and a Hair Product I Don’t Recommend

Hi friends! You may not know this, but Michigan can be extremely humid during the summer. It’s weird here weather-wise. Sometimes there is zero humidity and it’s very pleasant and other times it feels like you are walking through a sauna and you want to die. My hair doesn’t react well to humidity, so I’m always on the look out for that miracle product (other than a hat) that will make my hair behave when it’s humid.

I recently tried Living Proof – No Frizz Humidity Shield at the recommendation of a very high profile fashion blogger who shall remain nameless. Perhaps it worked well for her. It didn’t work for me. At all. I styled my hair and then used it as directed. Which is essentially to spray all over your hair after styling it normally. I sprayed the CRAP out of my hair with the product. As you can see from the pictures below, I still had frizz. It eventually got larger and even more frizzy. Suffice it to say, it was a failure. It wasn’t even super humid the day these photos were taken.

Two thumbs down.

Frowny face.

Generally, when I don’t like a product, I just move on. I’m a believer in the “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all” philosophy. That is why my reviews are overwhelmingly positive. You guys should see some of the stuff I send back! Wooooooo doggie! I can’t post pictures of myself in some of the BAD things I have ordered. However, I’m sure there are other people out there looking for the humidity saving grace and I don’t you all to waste $22.00 USD on a product that does not deliver. I tried it. It was a failure. Don’t waste your money.

I love you guys. You guys are awesome. You deserve honesty. Sometimes being honest is having to say that something SUCKS. I’d love any recommendations if you have found a product that has worked.

And here’s a super basic summer outfit for you.
