Hi friends! I’m off work this week. Since we took our big family vacation to Paris in April, we decided to lay low and staycation this week. I’m a homebody, so I’m pleased as punch to just putter around. My husband can’t sit still, so we’ve already taken two day trips.
We decided to drive to Grand Rapids, Michigan, which is about 2 hours away from our house in the Detroit metro area, to visit the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park. Ummmm… Worth it. It was really cool. The gardens were beautiful and the sculptures were really amazing. If you live in the area, you should make the trip. We all really enjoyed it. The only downfall is that it was super hot. We were melting and there was hardly any shade. Blergh. Because of my moles/melanoma issue, I’m not supposed to get much (OK any) sun so I was wearing my denim jacket for sun protection. I was a sweaty Betty. I was so sweaty that when I got home I took a cold shower and threw every item of clothing I was wearing into the laundry basket. Yuck.
I picked up a pair of the Birkenstock Gizeh sandals in silver this summer. I have a very sensitive toe crack (totally not kidding), so I’ve generally been a fan of the Arizona style, but these wormed their way into my heart. It appears as if I’m becoming more and more of a hippie as the days tick on. I wear Birkenstock sandals, practice yoga, drive a Subaru Outback, and I’m even wearing a crystal necklace in the photos below. Please excuse me as I go align my chakras.

I had been searching for a LWD (little white dress) for a while. I had it in my head that I NEEDED one for summer. I tried on a bunch, but never really liked any of them enough to pull the trigger. White can be hard. Many white dresses are totally see through, and if the cut isn’t right they can be quite unflattering.
I admit to loving this one from Madewell, but can’t bring myself to spend $158 on a dress that I will wear very infrequently and spill something on it when I do actually wear it. Plus, it’s not something that I can wear to work. I continued my search and found this one at J. Crew Factory. I actually never saw it in the store. I only saw it online. I ordered it in a few sizes and patiently waited for its arrival.
I was pleasantly surprised with the quality. The quality of the J. Crew Factory items can be hit or miss. Lately, it has definitely been more miss, so I rarely shop there anymore. I can imagine wearing this with leggings and a cardigan during the fall as well.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you have a fabulous day!
I’m not a costume person. I don’t dress for holidays. I don’t own a Christmas sweater. I don’t have special Halloween t-shirts. Heck, I barely decorate for Christmas. Some people REALLY get into holidays and enjoy dressing the whole family in matching looks and that’s totally cool. It’s just not my thing.
So, how does a non-holiday dresser not look like a jerk on Independence Day? Stripes. Navy and white stripes, paired with red lipstick. Red, white and blue. BAM! Festive.
And remember in this post where when I said that was pondering buying the blue denim version? Yeah… Well, I did. I have no regrets.

Thanks so much for stopping by and Happy Independence Day to all my USA readers. Enjoy the day!
